Bringing Novel Sludge Handling Technology To The US Market
Context
Next Rung Technology was engaged by the primary funder of a European-based technology to commercialize its unique sludge-handling technology in the US. The technology is an innovative, sustainable solution for managing wet organic waste, applicable to multiple types of organic waste streams. The company has a full-scale facility operating in the EU and has engaged Next Rung to manage the commercialization of the technology in the US.
Process
The initial effort by Next Rung included an overall market study for North America, identifying the markets that offer the most opportunity for the client. A target market was identified, and the Next Rung team began to develop a sales and outreach program to create a deeper understanding of how biosolids solutions are selected within this market segment. Further efforts by Next Rung included outreach and meetings with various stakeholders within the municipal wastewater industry, including publicly owned treatment works (POTW), as well as associated third-party operating contractors and strategic partners.
As part of its efforts for the client, the Next Rung team organized a week of successful face-to-face meetings with the stakeholders within the biosolids and residuals ecosystem, with meetings that included Next Rung, the client, the client’s major investor, and multiple key potential partners. Next Rung has also played a key role in introducing this new technology by presenting at some of the major professional associations for the wastewater industry.
Outcomes
Next Rung is currently leading efforts to install the first full-scale demonstration of this technology in North America. Current efforts include ongoing communications with key customers and related organizations regarding definitive opportunities at specific sites. Further efforts also include collaboration with an academic partner to set up facilities for sample testing in the US.
